I made both horizontal and vertical shelves from 28mm thick pine panels. This transforms the old-fashioned wall cabinet into a modern bookcase without a door.

How I made this project

First, we painted the inside of the old-fashioned built-in cabinet, measured the widths, and ordered the shelves. The shelves arrived earlier than expected, and we were amazed at how smoothly they fit in. They were given a white wood look by the white (diluted) paint. The vertical shelves were fixed with dowels. We had to do some sanding here and there because the back wall of the cabinet was uneven. Our son wanted a fish tank in his new cabinet. It fit perfectly, giving Fish Flipper a nice spot.
