On the internet, we saw a beautiful piece of furniture, consisting of a floating section with cabinets and a sort of 'bar'. The local carpenter came up with a ridiculously high quote, so we looked for an alternative. We opted for two Besta cabinets from IKEA and some loose pine planks that we ordered online.

How I made this project

We assembled the IKEA cabinets according to the instructions and hung them at the same height as the alcove. Then we measured and ordered wood (3 planks) online. After delivery, we trimmed the plank in the alcove to fit exactly, and we cut the other two planks at a 45-degree angle with a miter saw. We glued the mitered corners with construction adhesive using a special clamping device. The entire piece was treated with special (hard) wax and assembled. Relatively simple but with a superb result.
