Very easy

Do you have damage from water leakage or water damage for another reason? Solve your problem by replacing the current wood with moisture-resistant boards. In this 1958 flat, the window frames leaked when the north wind blew. The frames needed replacement. The wooden panels were purchased online, making it easy to replace the frame.

Description

With the custom-cut wood, I completed three projects:

  • Window frame
  • Subwoofer platform
  • Socket holder

Window Frame

I made a new window frame from custom-cut planks. This leaked during north winds. The flat was built in 1958 and had tilt windows with single glazing. I live on the fourth floor, which is also the highest. The reason for using moisture-resistant sheet material is that we had water leakage during heavy rain. Water droplets entered the power socket, causing a short circuit in the subwoofer, TV, and Wi-Fi. I had thin double glazing installed at the time. The painter said there would be no more leaks. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Therefore, I decided to make a wooden structure. This turned out not to be sufficient, as there was still a small leak. I am now making an additional cabinet around the window to completely fix the leak.

To solve the problem, I bought moisture-resistant MDF boards cut to size. I painted the boards with primer outside. Inside, some parts were also replaced due to the damage.

Subwoofer Platform and Socket Holder

The black planks were not used in the window frame but were used for the socket holder and TV subwoofer. For the subwoofer, Goodyear air balls and spikes are placed between the planks. Socket holder planks are mounted on the wall.

How I Completed This Project

Look, measure, think. I didn't make a blueprint for this project, just prepared the measurements with a small sketch.

What You Need:

  • Caulk
  • Wood glue
  • Exterior primer and latex paint
  • Roller and brush
  • Sandpaper
  • Level
  • Distance laser
  • Ladder

Window Frame

I used wooden panels with wood glue, caulk, and screws. The wood, which is also moisture-resistant, is painted white. Multiple types of wood were used for this job. White moisture-resistant wood was used around the tinted double glazing to prevent leakage from the window gaps and the joints between the bricks. This occurred when there was strong/stormy northwest wind. The whole thing was finished with beige latex wall paint.

Subwoofer Platform and Socket Holder

The black wood is used both for the Goodyear balls for the subwoofer and to create better stereo imaging with speakers on both sides of the TV. The black plates are for customizing the sockets. First, the distance between the TV shelves was measured because precision is crucial here. The Goodyear air balls, which I already had, were reused. I used them between the black planks, with 4 spikes underneath, for the subwoofer to reduce vibrations. The socket holder is mounted on the wall on 2 black planks.
