Making a children's desk from ash carpentry panel 26 mm, by Stefan

Although there are many standard children's desks available for purchase, it's much more fun to make them custom-made. Due to limited space or desired style, making it yourself can sometimes be the solution. In this DIY project, Stefan shows how he made a fun custom-made desk for children. For this task, he decided to order online sawn timber panel ash in 26mm thickness. The result is a beautiful custom-made children's desk.

Children's desk made in a corner from ash timber panel 26 mm with accompanying shelf also made of ash timber panel 26 mm. Desk in the corner is made of rectangular panel with beveled long side, shelf is made of 'regular' rectangular panel. I personally expected the ash timber panels to be slightly darker, but due to the lacquer, the color has taken on a slightly darker tint, but it remains a light-colored wood as seen in the photos.

For assembly, I applied 3 coats of clear lacquer (Rambo armor lacquer interior transparent matte) with sanding in between to prevent children's art from penetrating the wood. Mounting the desk with 3 heavy-duty Duraline plank brackets in the wall with Fisher SX8 plugs. Near the 90-degree corner of the shelf, I had to saw off a few thinner parts of it because the walls are not perfectly 90 degrees to each other and not perfectly straight. I did this by running it along with a miter saw. Mounting the shelf with Duraline mounting set for panels 12 mm to make them float invisibly. Drilling neatly perpendicular holes in the edges of 12 mm is not easy, but can be done with the tools in the photo. Furthermore, of course, determine the position of the plug holes on the wall accurately with a wooden template as an aid.
