In this DIY project, Davey shows how he made beautiful custom furniture using Ikea Smastad and a pine carpentry panel. By ordering the custom panel online, this was an easy project to carry out yourself. Read more about his approach and experience below.

Description of Davey

To make optimal use of the long wall of the living room and to preserve the natural colors in the home, I chose to have a pine plank made to measure. Because of the spaces in between, there will also be room in the future to place a small chair and thus create a nice seat for the children. At the top I had a bumper made from the same plank to prevent any damage to the wall.

How I made this project

Had a pine plank (2x3.05) cut to size twice the maximum length and placed on top of the TV cabinet and Ikea Smastad boxes. I had the top rounded to remove the sharp edges for the children. The Smastad boxes are still loose and I can therefore move them if necessary to vary the spacing. For now, the planks are still loose on the furniture and this is already quite sturdy. But in the future I may be able to secure the shelves via the underside of the Ikea furniture with a few screws.
