In this DIY project, Eric demonstrates how he made a custom storage cabinet using cut MDF blank and lacquered foil. It looks playful because the cabinet is partly open and partly closed. This custom-made cabinet is a perfect addition to the baby's room!

Description by Eric

A difficult-to-use alcove in the future baby's room, deep and very tall, converted into lockable storage space with a section where you can put fun items

How I Made This Project

The alcove is difficult to use due to its dimensions, approximately 100 cm wide, deep, and 160 cm high. After deciding on 1 open part and 2 lockable parts, I made a design. I chose MDF for the body and MDF with lacquered foil for the doors. The entire structure consists of 3 identical parts. I started with the bottom, which is loose. On top of that, I placed 2 side panels on the left and right, each fixed with 2 hollow wall anchors. And repeated this 3 times. Due to the high cost and the fact that you don't see the back half, the side and back walls are only functional and not complete. The doors are attached with Hettich hinges. Easy to attach with a drilling jig and a special 36 mm drill bit for countersinking the hinges into the doors. By making the doors slightly longer, no handles are needed.
