Timberboard Oak rustic - Joined staves: wat is dat?

Oak is known as a hard wood species. Therefore, if you treat the wood properly, it will last for years. Oak has a light brown colour that can be made darker by staining, varnishing or oiling it. Oak owes its popularity to its coarse flames and mirrors and the warm appearance of the material. The wood used in our boards comes from Ukraine, where the best wood is selected for making this board material.

Rustic oak

A rustic oak look refers to the distinctive, natural charm of oak with a more raw and authentic appearance. It is characterised by the presence of knots, cracks, colour variations and other natural imperfections in the wood.

The rustic properties of oak are often appreciated for the organic and characterful look they give. Knots, which are small round holes where branches once sat on the tree, add a sense of history and character to the wood. Cracks can occur due to natural shrinkage and expansion of the wood, creating a rustic and aged look.

In addition, colour variations may be present in oak, ranging from lighter shades to darker nuances. These variations are caused by various factors, such as the age of the tree, growing conditions and the part of the tree the wood comes from. This adds to the vibrancy and visual appeal of the rustic oak look.

Generally, the rustic oak look is associated with a more natural and traditional style, with an emphasis on showcasing the wood's unique and characteristic features. It is a popular choice for people who want to create a warm, cosy and authentic atmosphere in their interiors.

Visibility quality of solid panels

The solid panels in our range are of high quality. This can be deduced from the visibility quality. The visible quality is indicated by letters, often a combination of two letters with a separator in between. This can be found in the product name or the product properties. The first letter stands for the top of the panel, the second for the bottom or back. A/B thus describes the top and bottom appearance of the panel. A is the best visibility quality. More information on the appearance quality can be found below.

Continuous slats

This panel is constructed from Continuous slats. In this technique, several staves  of solid wood are placed side by side and glued together. The slats run in the same direction and along the full length of the panel.

The staves are carefully selected to ensure a good match in colour and grain pattern. They are then glued together with strong wood glue to form a solid panel. Often, the staves are also pressed together under high pressure to ensure the panel is solid and stable.

nerfrichting

Timberboard shows a wood grain. The pattern of the wood grain always runs lengthwise. When sawing the board, we keep in mind that the length measurement is also the length direction of the wood grain. So pay close attention when entering the dimensions so that the grain of the wood all runs in the right direction!

Available thicknesses of solid Timberboard Oak

Solid Timberboards can be ordered in various thicknesses. You can easily indicate your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way, you can be sure that the board material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 4 mm, 19 mm and 40 mm.

Machining solid Timberboard Oak

Always sand solid board material with a fine grit before working on it. Sanding oak makes for a beautiful end result, as it brings out the details of the pattern even more. Which benefits the robust, sturdy board. Should you wish to saw or mill the material, bear in mind that it may splinter. Finally, we recommend only using stainless steel when joining metal to prevent discolouration on the wood.

Wood absorbs moisture faster than it releases it, because of this property there is a risk of deformation, wood works! After the board has been sanded, it is important to treat the oak well with a lacquer, stain or oil.

Processing instructions

This panel is interior glued, which means that the furniture can only be used for indoor applications. Solid panels work in temperature differences and in humid conditions. It is important to always treat the solid panel properly right away with a lacquer, stain or oil to prevent warping.

Specific applications of solid Timberboard Oak

Oak can be used for a variety of applications. Get the industrial look at home by ordering an oak tabletop and fitting it with a steel base. You can also pimp up your current furniture by mounting a wooden top on it, for example a desk, TV cabinet or perhaps a kitchen worktop!

Besides cutting the material to size to the millimetre, you can also choose from various shapes and finishes. For example, if you have a round dining table in mind, choose the 'circle' shape, or go for a rectangle with rounded corners. Check out the available shapes and finishes that apply to the product, or see all the options on the shapes or finishes page.

Our solid joinery panels are only suitable for horizontal applications, for example table tops, window sills, etc. For vertical projects such as doors and room dividers, these solid panels are not suitable.
