A custom-made children's bed for a niche, by Teun

There are many cute children's beds on the market. But sometimes a standard bed doesn't fit or you want something different. Making it yourself always gives much more satisfaction anyway! In Teun's case, a standard crib didn't fit. He chose to work with custom-cut MDF panels to create a very stylish children's bed!

Custom-made children's bed in a niche with drawers, electrical outlet, and upholstered walls. The niche has dimensions of 202.0 by 74.0 cm, making a standard crib impossible.

How I made this project

Because we wanted the baseboard to continue, we first built a raised platform using beams. On this, an existing drawer cabinet from Ikea was placed. This is fixed to the platform to prevent sliding or moving afterwards. Then, using the planks from the webshop, we made the mattress frame. This rests on additional beams so that the existing one is not load-bearing. The sides, with an embedded electrical outlet, were closed with custom MDF planks. We also upholstered custom MDF planks with PU foam and then covered them with fabric. These form the side walls as a soft and warm cabin. These rest on the bed frame and are removable using double-sided tape. The whole forms a children's bed with a mattress of 200 x 70 cm.
