Many houses have sloping roofs, which often result in unused space. In this project, Wouter demonstrates how he created beautiful and practical bookshelves for the attic. He worked with small cubes and equipped them with LED lighting. The result is a stunning ensemble.

Description by Wouter

I built built-in bookshelves in our attic. Due to the sloping roof, there was unused space that had been closed off. I routed slots in the cubes to insert aluminum LED channels.

How I made this project

First, I made 4 large and 4 small cubes with back panels. I routed slots in them to insert aluminum LED channels. Then, I built a base for the lower cubes so I could place them and attach them to the existing wooden frame of the wall. Next, I slid the upper cubes into place and screwed them together. For finishing touches, I purchased hardwood profiles and nailed them in place.

Dimensions of my DIY project

40.0 cm wide
72.0 cm high

Upper cube: 14.0 cm deep
Lower cube: 31.0 cm deep
