Light cove in the kitchen made of black MDF, by Matthijs

Matthijs made a sleek cove from black MDF. He installed lighting in this cove, giving his modern kitchen an attractive appearance. In addition, it is of course also very practical to have more light in your kitchen. A smart solution from Matthijs! Because his kitchen has a dark color and the MDF has moisture-resistant properties, this was the perfect material for the job. The MDF is easy to assemble and finish, so Matthijs drilled the spot holes himself. The dark appearance fits perfectly with his kitchen, a nice job Matthijs!

The kitchen was installed a year ago, but the cove still needed to be installed. With pipes and drains to be hidden and spotlights to be built in, the soffit is now complete.

How I made this project

After a lot of drawing and thinking, the calculations began. The cove is divided into 3 boxes, two on the left to conceal pipes and drains and 1 to lower the ceiling so that it looks as if the kitchen is built-in. Then ordered the panels and assembled the two small boxes. Slats mounted on the walls and then fitted. Installed another socket. Then made the frame for the third box. Spotlights were installed and this box was ready. Finished with finishing skirting boards.

The width of the cove is 320.0 cm and the total height is 155.0 cm

The cove parts separately have an outer dimension of

• 25.0 x 25.0 x 70.0 cm,
• 10.0 x 25.0 x 85.0 cm
• 320.0 x 32.0 x 55.0 cm

My experience

A small review and a Did it myself. The kitchen cove still had to be done after the new kitchen was installed a year ago. Given how busy the carpenters were, I got to work myself and was very satisfied with the result. That wouldn't have been possible without TOSIZE.ie. However, I forgot a small detail, namely 1 shelf. This is now on order!
