Plywood Birch Mahogany Quartered veneer brushed: what is it?

Plywood panels are boards constructed from several layers of birch veneer. In this case, a core of birch and a top layer of mahonie fineer. Plywood birch is the most popular variant of interior plywood panels because it is the best choice in terms of quality. It is waterproof glued as standard and has a clearer wood grain compared to poplar plywood. Moreover, birch is a hardwood species.

Birch plywood is composed of several layers of birch veneer. These layers are glued crosswise. This results in a stable board. Nevertheless, the wood being glued together, during sawing and machining plywood birch can release tension which can cause longer boards to have a slight warp. For this reason, it is important to assemble these panels properly.

Plywood Birch Mahogany Quartered veneer brushed, sheet material with a natural top layer

Unlike melaminated board material, the top layer of veneered panels is a layer of real wood. This gives the material a calm, natural look. Because it is a natural product, there may be colour and texture differences between different panels. No two panels are the same. In addition, it is important that this panel is finished with a lacquer or oil as desired. This prevents discolouration and preserves the top layer.

Veneered mahogany

Mahogany has a warm appearance with a pink to reddish-brown colour. The wood has different textures. In general, it has a calm but irregular appearance with irregular grain and markings. The grain can therefore be described as fine to moderately coarse. The top layer is real wood, which causes this wood to discolour over time. This is intensified when exposed to daylight. It is therefore important to finish mahogany well with varnish or oil.

Crown cut or Quartered veneer

Cutting logs is usually done in two different ways: crown / plain or kwartiers. When the wood is cut crown / plain, long slices are cut lengthwise. This allows the flames of the material to be clearly seen and makes the best use of the wood. When the wood kwartiers is sawn, it is cut with the grain. This gives kwartiers sawn timber a calm appearance and relatively straight lines. In mix, these two techniques are processed interchangeably and used during veneer assembly. This creates a natural look and makes each panel unique.

Available thicknesses of Plywood Birch Mahogany Quartered veneer brushed

With us, you can order high-quality, customised veneer plywood in various thicknesses. You can easily specify the desired thickness in the product configurator. This ensures that the plywood meets your requirements: both in terms of size and thickness. The following thicknesses are available: 12 mm.

Machining plywood panels

This sheet material is easy to work with. Make sure you have sharp tools to minimise splintering. For drilling holes, we recommend a wood drill with centre point. Pre-drilling is recommended, but not necessary. This board material may discolour over time, so finish it with a (clear) lacquer, stain or paint. Use an edge sealer to finish the edges of the plywood, this will prevent the varnish or stain from soaking into the plywood, which can lead to the veneer layers coming loose.

Sawing leaves the edges 'open'. These still need to be finished, which can be done with veneer tape.

Specific applications of veneered mahogany

Plywood is very suitable for joinery and decorative applications such as cabinets or other furniture. Depending on the thickness of the board material, it is important to assemble the panels properly. In that case, they are suitable for any finishing application you have in mind.
