With an open staircase to the attic, you can lose a lot of heat in your house. Closing off an open staircase is therefore a smart and sustainable project. With this idea in mind, Matthijs got to work. He ordered custom-cut 12mm MDF panels to easily close off the stair treads himself.

Description by Matthijs

With the open staircase to the attic, I was losing a lot of heat to the attic. Now that I have closed it off, I notice this reflected in my energy costs.

How I made this project

I could measure each tread to the millimeter and enter it on the website. Each tread can easily be given a characteristic so you know which tread it is. I had the panels rounded at the bottom for a nice finish. The treads were delivered perfectly tailored. Due to the good packaging during transport, they arrived undamaged. Screws at the bottom were securely fastened straight into the tread. The screws at the top were drilled in at an angle for a good and sturdy finish.
