Description

I made a radiator surround from strips of MDF Lacquer Support, in which the vertical and horizontal parts are glued together at 45 degrees and the side is also glued at 45 degrees.

How did you make the conversion?

First, I painted the sawn edges of all parts (except the mitered edges) twice with MDF primer. Then glued a part of 84.0 x 10.0 cm (vertical side) with a horizontal part of 20.0 x 10.0 cm. Always use a 90 gr glue clamp. Ultimately, 19 parts were created in which the side panels were glued in on the left and right. Then I first painted all the loose parts twice in the right color. The next step is to apply a horizontal batten at the correct height against the wall (84.0 cm minus material thickness, in this case 18 mm) on which the horizontal parts of the surround will rest. Then you also apply a batten on the floor against which the vertical parts are attached (I attached this with double-sided tape to avoid damaging the floor). Then you attach all parts 1 by 1 against both the horizontal bar and the one on the floor, in my case I glued them with quick-drying wood glue. To fix the parts at the correct and the same distance, I took a lath of 12 mm thickness and saw spacers from it.

What are the measurements?

Outside dimensions are: 210.7 x 84.0 x 20.0 cm.
