Then choose one of the available (edge) finishes.

Plywood interior poplar: what is it?

Plywood Interior poplar is the lightweight version of plywood. When weight plays a role in your project, this is the perfect choice! Plywood poplar has a natural, light brown/ecru colour. With Plywood poplar, the wood grain is not clearly visible, so the pattern runs lightly through the material. The wood grain pattern always runs in the longitudinal direction of the wooden sheet. Applications for which Plywood interior poplar can be used are interior carpentry, such as cladding walls or making conversions. But furniture and toys can also be made of this fine material.

Plywood is made up of various veneer layers. These layers are glued crosswise on top of each other. The layers come from large tree trunks, where countless wood chips are glued to each other perpendicularly. This results in a stable sheet and reduces any warping. Finally, the thin veneer layers are bonded together under very high pressure and temperature.

Plywood quality B/BB

The quality of plywood is indicated by letter combinations. There is a letter indication for the visible side (top side) and one for the backside (bottom side). This refers to the quality of the veneer, the quality of the gluing for example is indicated differently. B/BB is an example of a common quality, which can be used for decorative applications. The first letter (in this case B) indicates the quality of the visible side and the second letter (in this case BB) indicates the quality of the back side. Read more about all visible qualities here

This board material also has a B/BB visible side. The top side has sight quality B. B-grade veneers may have minor blemishes. Slight discolourations and minor repairs are also permitted. Small colour nuances are allowed. Knots and sapwood may be present. The underside is coarser. With BB-quality veneers, drosses are permitted. These are small cuts from the veneer that have been replaced by a flawless piece of veneer. Propping is therefore a way of repairing defects. Small cracks in the veneer (especially near the edges) are also permitted.

Available thicknesses of plywood interior poplar

Plywood can be ordered in different thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way you can be sure that the sheet material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 4 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, 22 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm.

Machining plywood interior poplar

Plywood poplar primed is a soft wooden sheet type. It is easy to work with. Make sure you have sharp tools for minimal splintering. For drilling holes, we recommend a wood drill with centring tip. Pre-drilling is recommended, but not required. This sheet material can discolour prematurely, so always finish it with a (clear) varnish, stain or paint. Use an edge sealer to finish the edges of plywood to prevent the lacquer or stain from being absorbed into the sheet material, which can lead to the veneer layers loosening.

Specific applications of plywood interior poplar

Plywood poplar is very suitable for projects such as finishing work, moulds, wall cladding, but also for decorative applications such as tabletops and cabinets. In addition, it is a popular wood type for making children's toys such as a house frame kids’ desk.
