Description by Birgit

L-cabinet for the VW T6 California. It's a kind of kitchen module, but I deliberately avoid a sink or fixed gas stove here. The gas connection as well as electricity is available in the van and is simply led from behind into the cabinet. So it's pure storage space for a cooler, gas bottle, and other utensils. First, a stable framework made of 12mm plywood, I took the dimensions directly from the van using cardboard templates. All connections are dowelled and glued, secured with small brackets. The door is decorated with a router, and felt pockets are attached. The flaps close with double ball catches. With mounting brackets, it now attaches to the guide rail in the van.

How I Made This Project

I realized it thanks to many YouTube videos :) since I've only worked with a jigsaw so far. Now I'm sure, anyone can do anything if there's enough motivation behind it. It's not perfect, but for the first cabinet, I'm extremely satisfied.

  1. Order square plywood panels
  2. Transfer of template
  3. Cut with jigsaw and chamfer edges with router
  4. Flexibly adjustable shelves
  5. Worktop 18mm wild oak dowelled together (cheaper than cutting a wide panel in an L shape)
  6. Frame milled for stability and flaps covered with felt
  7. Mount ball catches
  8. Handles made of fabric tape with black screws
  9. Side pockets will be placed in the van later
