Description by Daan

Hollow wall shelves made of miter-cut MDF. Various slats are attached in the niche, and the shelves are slid over them. After placement, the shelves are varnished and the seams are caulked.

How I Made This Project

I measured the length and depth of the niche to determine the dimensions of the hollow wall shelves. Then, I determined how many shelves could be placed. I ordered materials and had them miter-cut to create hollow shelves. Upon receipt, I folded 2 shelves and 1 slat together with tape and wood glue. For stability, I also placed a wooden slat between the two shelves. Then, I placed slats on the wall with a width that fits precisely between the hollow wall shelves. I slid the shelves over the slats and screwed them in place (pre-drilled and countersunk holes). Screw holes were filled with putty, shelves were sanded, and then varnished. Finally, all seams were caulked.
